Google just listed a series of lectures and tutorials used by Google Engineers called Google Code University.  Gotta make sure I take some time to look at all the video options in HTML5.

Excellent Concert!

By dpearson

Saw Rush at the State Fair yesterday and had a blast! The tickets were a surprise gift from my wife for my birthday. Thanks Steph! They played every song from Motion Pictures but also had a great selection of songs from Permanent Waves, Hold Your Fire, Snakes and Arrows plus many more. Loved the intro to Working Man. The Star Tribune had a pretty good review.

College Mindset for the class of 2014

By dpearson

Each year, Beloit College creates a Mindset List for freshmen, characterizing how freshmen view the world. Some of the interesting ones for 2014 are:

  • For these students, Benny Hill, Sam Kinison, Sam Walton, Bert Parks and Tony Perkins have always been dead.
  • Few in the class know how to write in cursive.
  • Email is just too slow, and they seldom if ever use snail mail.
  • DNA fingerprinting and maps of the human genome have always existed.
  • “Viewer Discretion” has always been an available warning on TV shows.
  • Having hundreds of cable channels but nothing to watch has always been routine.

The complete list for the class of 2014 can be found here.

Feeddler for the iPad

By dpearson

Just found a great app called Feedler for the iPad and iTouch.Does a great job formatting RSS feeds from Google Reader to an easy to read format.

Also have started to figure out how to effectively use use Google Reader. I use to put in RSS feeds from places like Digg, StarTribune and CNN but then would get overwhelmed at all the information. Instead, I’m finding it much more useful to visit those individual websites to get the news and then use Google Reader/Feeddler to follow friends blogs, Twitter account and other websites that only have new updates once a day.

Here’s the list of feeds I’m currently following:

iTouch/iPad/iPhone Screen Captures

By dpearson

Just found out a neat little feature on the iTouch, that also works on the iPhone and iPad. If you press the Power button and the Main Menu button at the same time, your iTouch performs a screen capture. Just go look in the Photos app and you’ll see a new photo which you can send via email. It’s in PNG format so very, very old browsers won’t recognize it but it’s a pretty neat feature. Heard about it while listening to iPad Today with Sarah Lane and Leo Laporte.Below is an example of my flickr app on my iTouch.
